Local Knowledge
Oamaru is nestled on the east coast of the South Island and has a variety of attractions for those wanting to visit the real New Zealand. It is famous for its limestone known as Oamaru stone and many of the buildings in the town centre are made of it.

Their best-known attraction is the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony located at Oamaru harbour where you can look into the heart of the Blue Penguins habitat for a truly unique experience. Oamaru is accessible by car from either Christchurch or Queenstown and is a beautiful drive from either city.
