Wairarapa is a region of big skies, wide valleys and characterful small towns. With three forest parks and a wild stretch of coast the place Maori called “Land of Glistening Waters” it offers endless possibilities for outdoor adventures or just getting away from it all. It’s also one of New Zealand’s top food and wine destinations and is at the heart of the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail. We offer some of the country’s premium wines from Martinborough and Gladstone and everything from country cooking to haute cuisine in the many cafes and restaurants.

Wairarapa is a true escape – all within an hour’s drive from the capital city Wellington – where you can relax and unwind in a myriad of ways, from touring gardens and walking along unspoilt beaches to partaking in some retail therapy and sampling artisan French baking or handmade chocolates in Greytown.

Highlights of a trip to the Wairarapa include seeing the white kiwi (and other native species) at Pukaha Mt Bruce, viewing World War I and II fighter planes at The Vintage Aviator, discovering how our ancestors used the stars to navigate at Stonehenge or learning the history of the sheep and shearing industry at The Wool Shed Museum.
