Long hot summers and mild sunny winters make Hawke’s Bay the perfect year round holiday destination.  Boasting 170 vineyards, more than 70 wineries, traditional farmers markets and fabulous fresh produce it’s no surprise Hawke’s Bay is widely recognized as New Zealand leading wine and food region.

Visitors can enjoy al fresco dining at one of the award winning winery restaurants or take in one of the open air concerts in the summer months. Following the food and wine trails is a great way to experience the best of the cellar doors and farm gates-you can self drive or take a tour with one of the local guides by car, bus or bicycle.

No visit to Hawke’s Bay is complete without a tour of the Art Deco City of Napier-20 000 people a year opt to take a guided walk through its unique streets to discover the history of the 1931 earthquake that shaped the region. Go further afield and enjoy the off road cycle pathways that link Napier, Hastings and Havelock North. Home to two of New Zealand’s 18 Great Rides-Hawke’s Bay is a must for any lover of the outdoors. Outdoor lovers can also enjoy excellent fishing, walking tracks including Lake Waikaremoana and beautiful white sand beaches.

Scenic highlights include Te Mata Peak and the dramatic Cape Kidnappers, home to the world’s largest mainland gannet colony and one of the top 50 golf courses in the world.

Local Knowledge

Napier is known as the art deco capital of the world. It was hit in 1931 by a massive 7.9 on the Richter scale earthquake that destroyed most of the town. As a result the whole commercial centre was rebuilt in the style of the 1930s and many of the buildings still remain to this day.

It has a pleasant climate and wonderful beaches, and is also famous for having a wide variety of watersports. You can fly direct to Napier with Air New Zealand or drive from anywhere in the North Island. Make a visit to experience its intriguing history and culture.
